I/O Libraries

I/O libraries have two main purposes - optimizing read/write operations and providing a standard file structure.

The netCDF, HDF and HDF5 libraries provide interfaces to common data file formats that can be shared by difference applications running on different platforms. NCARU offers file conversion capabilities on the IBM SP.

NetCDF and related softwares
The netCDF library and its related softwares provide a set of programming interfaces that can be used for storing and retrieving scientific data. It also defines a machine-independent format for representing scientific data.
Parallel NetCDF
The parallel version of the netCDF library.
HDF
Hierarchical Data Format library (a.k.a HDF4) which facilitates the transfer of various types of scientific data between machines and operating systems.
HDF5
HDF5, a new generation of Hierarchical Data Format (HDF), is a successor to HDF4. It is a complete redesign of the format and library with improved support for parallel I/O.
MPI I/O
The new MPI standard defines a set of routines for transferring data to and from external storage.
NCARU
The NCARU library can be used to read binary Cray files on the IBM SP.
