Review Process

All DOE production requests are reviewed at least once every three years by NERSC staff reviewers. NERSC staff reviewers provide computational ratings to the DOE Program Managers on the computational approach, optimization, scalability, and communications characteristics of your codes.

The following 2008 production-level requests will be reviewed:
  • Projects requesting 1 million or more MPP hours or 500,000 or more Storage Resource Units
  • Projects requesting more than twice what they were awarded in 2007
  • New projects
  • Projects that have not had a review in the previous two years
  • Projects for which the PI requests a review by sending email to: fverdier@lbl.gov

PIs and Project Managers can see their project's average review score from the Project Information tab in NIM's Project/Repository display area.

Three areas of your project are rated with a computational score of:

  • 5 for excellent
  • 4 for very good
  • 3 for good
  • 2 for fair
  • 1 for poor

The areas rated are:

  1. Software and Algorithms: this area is given 50% of the weight for the overall score for that reviewer.
  2. Code Performance: this area is given 30% of the weight for the overall score.
  3. Data and Networking: this area is given 20% of the weight for the overall score.

The weighted average of these three scores produce an overall computational score.
