Scientific Applications: Third Party

NERSC currently supports a wide third party variety of software applications from the independent software vendor community, (such as Objectivity/DB, Iris Explorer, Gaussian, NASTRAN etc.). The continued support of these applications and the staff to maintain and provide consulting services is required to allow the ER scientific community to do their science. The obvious fiscal restraints mean that NERSC should continue their monitoring of third party application utilization and make appropriate additions and deletions of the third party applications that NERSC supports. This should include user-site fiscal responsibilities for applications that are not widely used. In other words, if an application is required by a very limited number of users then the NERSC facility should not have to bear the full burden of the cost and maintenance of this application software.
