Dear SP Users: As you are probably aware now, Seaborg was removed from service on 10/5/2006 due to a security incident. NERSC and IBM staff have been working around the clock to safely restore production service to Seaborg. The systems staff have completed rebuilding and re-installing the system software. Specifically, system software was upgraded to AIX 5.2, TL 9, SP1, PE 4.2.2.5, and GPFS PTF 16. The system is up and restricted to NERSC staff only to allow us to do a verification of the system and perform security scans. In addition, we will be doing a full filesystem check of all the GPFS filesystems, which are also up and running. LoadLeveler is up and USG will be running jobs to verify system functionality and application performance. Once these activities are successfully completed NERSC will be opening up Seaborg to all NERSC users. The next update will happen on 10/12/2006 by 12:00 PM. I hope to be able to provide an availability time at that point, once again if these activities complete successfully, later this morning. From all of the NERSC staff, we sincerely apologize for this major inconvenience. Jim Craw Computational Systems Group Leader
