    Dear NERSC Users,

All Jacquard/Seaborg users now have accounts on NERSC's new 32
processor SGI Altix system, davinci.nersc.gov. This shared-memory
machine is a replacement of the Visualization Server, escher.nersc.gov,
and is intended to support scientific visualization and data analysis.
The password is your NIM (NERSC LDAP) password, which is also used
for Jacquard. If you do not know this password or the system does
not accept your NIM username/password pair, please call the
    NERSC Account Support office at:

             1-800-66-NERSC (or 510-486-8600), menu option 2.

Charging starts as of today (August 22). Charges will come
from your MPP repository, now shared between Seaborg, Jacquard
and DaVinci. The machine charge factor for Davinci is 4, so
that time will be charged as (raw time used) * 4. Initially
the machine will only support interactive use; some limited
batch capability will be added in the near future.

    This system is described at:

             http://www.nersc.gov/nusers/resources/davinci/

Check the Software Availability page at:

             http://www.nersc.gov/nusers/resources/davinci/software/

Escher Users: Please note the Visualization Server (escher.nersc.gov)
will be decommissioned on September 15, 2005. Users are responsible for
their files/data that reside on Escher. Please copy your important
files to other systems e.g. Davinci, HPSS or your home system.

Report any problems and direct all questions about the system to the
    NERSC consultants at:

             1-800-66-NERSC, menu option 3, 8 am - 5 pm, Pacific time
