Greetings Seaborg User,
Beginning in early January, NERSC will institute a new file and
directory purge policy in /scratch on Seaborg. This policy will
include the following components:
1) Any file without a valid owner will be removed. This situation
typically arises when a person stops being a NERSC user, but
leaves files behind in /scratch. Note that these files might
be in scratch directories that belong to other (active) users.
3) Any directory without a valid owner will be removed, along with
all of its contents. This is a similar situation to 1) above,
but with one important addition. A DIRECTORY OWNED BY A
FORMER USER MAY CONTAIN FILES OWNED BY CURRENT (ACTIVE) USERS.
THESE FILES WILL BE REMOVED.
The purpose of the above changes is to reclaim wasted disk space
and to streamline the process of removing users. All active users
should verify that important files in /scratch (often shared between
many users) are owned by active users and are kept in directories
owned by active users.
