Index Update: Visualization Software Available on Escher

Dear NERSC users,

This announcement is actually eight combined announcements, done to
reduce email. There are three newly installed programs and five updated
programs on escher.nersc.gov:

1. ParaView (new) -- Parallel Visualization GUI interface to VTK
2. Grace (new)  -- Plotting package.
3. CMake (new)  -- Cross-platform Make, used for compilation of 
programs, particularly VTK.
4.  IDL (updated)  -- A scientific data analysis system.
5.  AVS5 (updated)  -- Interactive tool for scientific visualization.
6.  Express (updated)  -- A data visualization package from AVS, Inc.
7.  Rasmol (updated)  -- Molecular visualization program.
8.  Garlic (updated)  -- An open source molecular viewer.


NEWLY INSTALLED

1. ParaView, version 0.6, is now available on escher.nersc.gov.

To access paraview, use: "module load paraview".

2. Grace, version 5.1.4, is now available on escher.nersc.gov.

To access grace, use "module load grace". To execute grace, use: "xmgrace".

3. CMake, version 1.6.6, is now available on escher.nersc.gov.

To access cmake, use: "module load cmake".

UPDATED

4. IDL, Version 5.6, is now available on escher.nersc.gov. Version 5.3 
is currently in use on Escher as the default. Version 5.5 is also available

To access the new version use: "module load idl/5.6".

Unless problems are found, version 5.6 will become the default on June
2, 2003. Versions 5.5 and 5.3 will be disabled on June 16, 2003
and deleted soon thereafter.

5. AVS5, version 5.6, is now available on escher.nersc.gov. Version 5.5 
is currently in use on Escher as the default.

To access avs, use: "module load avs".

2, 2003. Versions 5.5 will be disabled on June 16, 2003 and deleted soon

6. Express, version 6.2 ,  is now available on escher.nersc.gov. Version 
6.0  is currently in use on Escher as the default.

To access the new version use: "module load avs-express/6.2".

Unless problems are found, version 6.2 will become the default on June
2, 2003. The current version, 6.0, will be disabled on June 16, 2003
and deleted soon thereafter.


7. Rasmol, version 2.7.2.1,  is now available on escher.nersc.gov.

To  access rasmol, use: "module load rasmol".

The default is for 16 bit displays. To execute use: "rasmol". To 
explicitly invoke the 8, 16, and 32 bit display versions, use:  
"rasmol8", "rasmol16", and "rasmol32", respectively.

The previous version, 2.6, was only able to utilize 32 bit displays. 
This restriction prevented it from working correctly on most remote 
displays except SGI machines. Effective immediately, version 2.7.2.1 
will be the default version to allow users who are not using SGI 
machines to immediately use RASMOL remotely.

The current version, 2.6, will remain available until June 2, 2003, and 
deleted soon thereafter.

To access the older version use: "module load rasmol/2.6".

8. Garlic version 1.3, is now available on escher.nersc.gov.

To access the new version use: "module load garlic/1.3".

The vendor's web site, mentioned in the previous (5/31/2002) 
announcement, 
(http://hpcf.nersc.gov/hypermail/server-announcements/0041.html),  is 
not currently accessible. Please refer to the online support resource 
page for currently available mirror sites.

Unless problems are found, version 1.3 will become the default on June 
 2, 2003. The current version, 1.1, will be disabled on June 16, 2003 
and deleted soon thereafter.
