Dear NERSC Users,

On Tuesday, February 13, ESCHER will be down during 14:00 to 18:00,
pacific time, to install OS upgrade IRIX 6.5.8. IRIX 6.5.8, in
addition to bug-fixes includes several software enhancements:

        Netscape 4.7 /usr/bin/X11/netscape
        gcc 2.95.2 /usr/freeware/bin/gcc
        gdb 5.0 /usr/freeware/bin/gdb
        ghostscript 6.0 /usr/freeware/bin/gs
        gmake 3.78.1 /usr/freeware/bin/gmake
        libpng 1.0.6 /usr/freeware/lib/libpng.so
        libz 1.1.3 /usr/freeware/lib/libz.so

Please note, libpng 1.0.6 (SGI modified version) and libz 1.1.3
in /usr/freeware/lib have been installed to satisfy Netscape 4.7
related dependencies. If your software needs to link with libpng,
and you have compatibility problems with the default libpng
version 1.0.6, then use version 1.0.8 by loading the module
libpng. For more information see "module help libpng".

The default compilers will also be upgraded to MIPSpro 7.3.1.2.
