	Announcing NERSC Teleconference Lectures for New Users
			    in October, 2000

NERSC User Services announces October Teleconference Lectures form new
users, to be held from 10 AM to 12 noon on October 13 and 20. The
lectures will be an introduction, in two parts, to NERSC facilities,
capabilities, and methods.

Teleconference lectures are presented over conference telephone calls,
with lecture materials available on the NERSC HPCF web server at the
times of the lectures. Local attendees are also welcome.

Oct. 13, 2000 - Introduction to the NERSC High Performance Computing
		Facility (HPCF)
10:00 AM - 12:00 noon, LBNL Bldg. 50D Room 3416
		 NERSC User Services Group staff

This lecture will be a general introduction to all NERSC resources,
incluting computer systems and servers, utility and application
software, execution mechanisms, file storage, and on-line resources
for documentation, training, and troubleshooting.

Oct. 20, 2000 - Introduction to batch computing at NERSC
10:00 AM - 12:00 noon, LBNL Bldg. 50D Room 3416
		 NERSC User Services Group staff

An introduction to batch computing at NERSC. Batch jobs are how users
acquire and use large portions of computational resources, including
processors, execution time, and file space. This lecture will cover
batch job submission and monitoring software, scripting, job queuing
and resource use policies, and high performance file systems.
