    Dear Franklin users,

This is to announce a new purge policy for the Franklin /scratch file 
system due to its high usage.  Starting from next Thursday (October 16), 
we will be purging the files under the /scratch/scratchdirs directory on 
a weekly or more frequent basis according to their age as defined by 
their last access time.  We will start to purge files older than 24 
weeks, down to files older than 16 weeks if necessary.

In summary, users should not expect any files that are older than 16 
weeks on Franklin under the directory 
/scratch/scratchdirs/your_user_name, i.e., $SCRATCH, to be preserved 
after Oct. 16.  Please make sure to back up your important files to HPSS 
frequently.
