An addendum: The usage you see on the ERCAP 2009 request form is your current POWER3 based usage divided by 6. It is an approximation of your usage in XT4-based units. The current machine charge factors are: Franklin - 6.5 Bassi - 6.0 Jacquard - 3.6 DaVinci - 4.0 We chose to divide your POWER-3 based MPP usage by 6 rather than 6.5 for two reasons: (1) to account for different usage patterns between the 4 machines (2) At the time ERCAP opened we had not yet calculated the Franklin quad core machine charge factor (performance results show that dual and quad core have equivalent performance over a wide range of applications, so the charge factor for both dual and quad core is 6.5.) Sincerely, Francesca Dear PIs and PI Proxies, In 2009 MPP charging will be based on the Cray XT4 hour, rather than the IBM POWER3 hour used in 2008. On the request form you will see your current MPP usage displayed in Cray XT4 hours, and you should request time for 2009 using these units as well. The MPP machines available for 2009 are: the Cray XT4, Franklin, which will have a machine charge factor of 1 (the base unit) the IBM POWER5, Bassi, which will have a machine charge factor of 1. the Linux Cluster, Jacquard, which will have a machine charge factor of 0.6. the SGI Altix, DaVinci, which will have a machine charge factor of 0.6. Please note: the new XT4 units are only displayed in the 2009 ERCAP area; the rest of NIM is still using the old POWER3 units. -- Francesca Verdier email: fverdier_at_lbl_dot_gov Department Head, NERSC Services phone: 510-486-7193 _______________________________________________ account-managers mailing list account-managers_at_nersc_dot_gov _______________________________________________ account-managers mailing list account-managers_at_nersc_dot_gov
