Dear NERSC User, A major HPSS upgrade from version 5.1 to 6.2 has been scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 9th, 2008. This upgrade will only be done on hpss.nersc.gov (regent) and is expected to result in a downtime of two days. The other HPSS system at NERSC, archive.nersc.gov, will be unaffected and will receive the upgrade at a later date. Users will notice two main changes as a result of the upgrade. First, users will need to use new version 6.2 compatible hsi and htar clients. These will be available soon from the NERSC HPSS download page: https://www.nersc.gov/projects/download/hpss/. Second, auth.nersc.gov will no longer be used to generate HPSS specific passwords. Instead, users will use a new option in NIM under Actions to "Generate an HPSS token". This will provide an encrypted string that may be used by the user on any client system on the same class C network. Instead of using a .netrc for FTP clients and a .hsipw for HSI clients, users should now place the new encrypted string provided by NIM in a .netrc file for both HSI and FTP clients. Details on the new NIM integrated HPSS password feature will be available soon at http://www.nersc.gov/nusers/systems/hpss/accounts_passwords.php. If you have any questions or comments on this upgrade please contact us with an email to consult@nersc.gov or by using the on-line help desk. Thank you, Eric Hjort NERSC User Services Group _______________________________________________ Users mailing list Users@nersc.gov
