Dear NERSC users,

In cooperation with RSI, the vendor who produces IDL, the NERSC
Visualization Group is providing a lecture via the Access Grid entitled,
"What's New in IDL 6.0". IDL is used for data analysis and
visualization. This new version is a major release of the software with
many new features. There are significant changes from the current
version , 5.6, which is available on Escher, the NERSC Visualization
Server as well as Seaborg. We are also working with the vendor to have
either a beta or final release version of IDL 6.0 installed on both
Escher and Seaborg for your use before the lecture. The availability of
IDL 6.0 will be a separate announcement.

The lecture is scheduled for June 23, 2003 from 12:30PM - 2PM PDT
(Pacific Time), utilizing the Full Sail virtual venue. Time will be
provided for Q&A with the vendor's technical representatives.
Participation is open to all who are interested. Local users may attend
the presentation located in the LBL Access Grid room in Building 50B,
Room 1211.

for any other information.

Please contact me directly if you have any additional questions
regarding evaluating IDL 6.0 on either Escher or Seaborg.

Kenneth Schwartz
