Greetings SP Users,

Here are some announcements regarding new software on seaborg

* bash available as a login shell
---------------------------------

Bash joins tcsh in being available as a regular login shell. For more 
information see

http://hpcf.nersc.gov/software/os/shells/bash.html

Users who load bash via modules at login are encouraged to make bash 
their login shell
with chsh on sadmin.


* IBM compiler upgrades
-----------------------

IBM compiler upgrades will take place this week, likely on Thursday. 
After all offline
testing is complete the new versions will be swapped in. No interruption 
or downtime is
expected. A subsequent email notice will notify users when the upgrade 
is complete.


* gcc/3.0.4 installed
-----------------------

This version includes improved C++ and 64 bit support.


* NAMD 2.4b1 installed
-----------------------

This version, while still beta, shows significant parallel speedups over 
version 2.3.

* MASS 3.0 installed

IBM's optimized math library MASS version 3.0 is now available. For more
